Can I change the colour scheme?

No problem. Once you have logged in, take the menu option Settings > My Settings

You can then change the colours of the navigation bars, buttons and background.

Unless you are using a “roaming profile”, your changes will only apply to the computer you are using, enabling you to have different colour schemes on different computers.

Can I enter achievement for assignments outside eSubs

Yes, take the menu option Marking & IVAd Hoc Achievement:

  • Ad Hoc achievement allows you to award criteria obtained outside eSubs, perhaps an external assessment or prior attainment.
  • You set the achievement then enter text to explain your reasoning.
  • Please remember that Ad Hoc achievement overrides all achievement in Assignments that cover the same criterion for that student.
  • If you use Ad Hoc achievement, you will probably need to provide additional material for quality reviews and external verification.

How do I include criteria from another unit in my assignment?

Assignments are set for a subject in eSubs rather than for a unit. Each subject can have as many units as you want associated with it and a unit can be associated with multiple subjects. This allows you to spread the criteria between subjects taught by different members of staff.

If your subject doesn’t have the unit you want, another can easily be added on the “Group Setting” page. If you don’t have permission to make changes on this page, you may have to ask your team leader to do it for you.

I made a mistake when entering feedback for a student, can I change it?

You can change the verdict for a criterion on the marking page, but eSubs builds a history of feedback that can only be changed by the lead internal verifier.

If you have made a mistake that you think needs to be corrected, please ask your lead internal verifier to:

  1. Take the menu option Assignments, select the assignment in question and click on “2nd Hand-In | Progress | IV” button.
  2. Click on the criterion which has the erroneous feedback (or click on the student’s name if the mistake is in the overall feedback for the assignment).
  3. Make the changes and save. This will generate an entry in the assignment’s audit trail.

Students have handed in work, but I can't see it in my marking. Where is it?

Though you have been set up as the lecturer for a subject and normally get the marking for assignments, it may be that you are not set up to mark this particular assignment. This might be an accident caused by:

  1. You taking over as lecturer for a subject, but your team leader not ticking “reassign marking” when making the change.
  2. The assignment being copied from another group and the person copying the assignment not taking the option to change the marker.

The best thing to do is:

  1. Take the menu option Assignments, select the assignment in question and click the “Edit” button.
  2. Check who has been selected to mark each criterion (you should have a screen similar to this:

Screenshopt of Editing Criteria

Now you can change the marker to yourself if needed.

When I try to open a students work to mark it, it doesn't open.

eSubs tries to open student work in a new tab in your browser. If pop-ups are blocked, it can’t open the student’s work.

We recommend that you just enable pop-ups for eSubs, not for all web sites. If you aren’t sure how to do this, try typing “enable pop-ups for a site using XXXXX” where XXXXX is the name of the browser you are using.

Why is achievement and feedback hidden for some students for an assignment, but not for others?

eSubs gives colleges the option to hide feedback until internal verification (also known as internal quality assurance) has been completed after the first and after the second hand-in.

Achievement and feedback might be hidden for some students but not others depending on whether any marking has been done for a hand-in that has not been internally verified.

To see the reason for a specific student:

  1. Take the menu option Assignments, select the assignment in question and click on “2nd Hand-In | Progress | IV” button.
  2. Click on the word “Yes” or “No” in the “Hidden?” column.
  3. The explanation for the specific student that you clicked on will be shown below.
